In the UK over 100 BAPs have now been produced on a wide range of geographical scales, which reflects the fact that wildlife priorities will differ significantly from one area to another. A BAP for the South West region was developed in 1997, which included regional habitat and species action plans, and other plans have been developed on a local scale since then, including the Swindon BAP, the Wiltshire BAP and the Cotswold Water Park BAP.
The UK BAP has been undergoing review over the past couple of years, and updated targets and actions have now been produced for national priority species and habitats. The priority habitat and species lists have also been updated, and habitats that are now considered a priority such as Traditional Orchards and species such as the hedgehog have now been added.
