2010 - International Year of Biodiversity

2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity, as declared by the United Nations.  This is a chance for everyone to celebrate the amazing and wide variety of life on Earth and to learn more about the wildlife on your own doorstep!

In Wiltshire there will be a mulitiude of events and activities running throughout the year for you to take part in, from bat walks, moth trapping and bird ringing activities, to carrying out bumblebee surveys, enjoying a breakfast of local food produced in the surrounding countryside, and exploring some of the many beautiful nature reserves that our county has to offer.  Keep your eyes on our Events pages to find out more about the exciting activities taking place this year, especially in the weeks surrounding May 22nd which we will feature as Wiltshire Weeks of Wildlife!

On Saturday May 22nd - International Day of Biodiversity, the Wiltshire and Swindon BAP Partnerships are organising a day of events at two Wiltshire Wildlife Trust Reserves in the north and south of the county - watch this space for more news of these fun-filled events!

New Future Jobs Fund Employees

The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust has now gained two new part time employees as Biodiversity Assistants under the Future Jobs Fund scheme, to assist with the Wiltshire Biodiversity Action Plan.  So far they have helped enter data from the BAP onto the national recording system BARS (Biodiversity Action Reporting System) and are now getting stuck into producing the Wiltshire BAP newsletter and organising events for International Day of Biodiversity.  Their contribution to the Wiltshire BAP is much valued and is enabling them to gain crucial experience when building a career in nature conservation.
